Anambra Assembly Urges Soludo to Evacuate Citizens from S’Africa

The Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to mobilize resources for the urgent evacuation of Anambra indigenes who are facing xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

This appeal was made during a plenary session on Tuesday, following a motion sponsored by Ikenna Ofodem, a member of the House. Ofodem expressed deep concern regarding the challenges faced by Anambra citizens, which have been exacerbated by xenophobic attacks, unfavorable immigration policies, and economic hardships in South Africa.

He highlighted that many individuals travel abroad in search of better economic opportunities but are confronted with severe deprivation and insecurity. The situation has placed an emotional and financial burden on their families back home, necessitating immediate intervention.

The motion received support from other members, including Anayo Okpalaek, Jude Ngobili, and Fred Ezenwa, who commended the call for humanitarian action. Speaker Somtochukwu Udez acknowledged the importance of collective action to address the plight of stranded Anambra indigenes in South Africa.
