Soludo Declares Environmental Emergency in Anambra State

On the occasion of Anambra State's 35th anniversary, Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo declared a state of emergency on the environment, citing erosion, flooding, and land degradation as significant threats to the state's future. In a statewide broadcast from Awka, he introduced the "Clean and Green Initiative," aimed at encouraging residents to actively participate in environmental protection.

Soludo emphasized that while his administration has made progress in addressing insecurity, environmental degradation is now "Anambra’s number one existential threat." He called for collective efforts to adopt greener practices, such as tree planting and protecting waterways. The governor urged residents to take responsibility for their surroundings, stating, “Let us choose green.

Let us choose the future.” He also reflected on the progress made in Anambra over the past 35 years, stressing the need for a healthier environment for future generations. Dr. Nonye Soludo, the governor's wife, praised the resilience and contributions of Anambra residents during this milestone.
