Ireti Kingibe Critiques Major Changes to Electoral Act

Ireti Kingibe, a senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed her concerns regarding the drastic alterations made to the Electoral Act during a Monday interview. She stated that every aspect of the act was completely changed from its original form, which was developed by the electoral reform committee over a two-year period.

Kingibe highlighted that the current act does not reflect the initial agreements reached, as it was not part of the original document. She mentioned that the committee involved members from both chambers of the National Assembly, including the House of Representatives, as well as civil society organizations, to ensure a widely accepted document aimed at facilitating free and fair elections.

Kingibe also pointed out issues related to the security features of the ballot papers used for voting, indicating that the alterations have significant implications for the electoral process.
