Ex-AGoF Nwabuoku Sentenced to 8 Years for N868m Fraud

Chukwunyer Nwabuoku, the former Acting Accountant General of the Federation, was sentenced to eight years in prison by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja for his involvement in a N868 million fraud case. The court found Nwabuoku guilty on nine counts of money laundering and financial crimes, which were prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges stemmed from allegations that he conspired with companies to convert funds belonging to the federal government for personal use. Nwabuoku, who was arraigned on January 15, 2025, pleaded not guilty but was ultimately convicted after the prosecution proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.

The court ordered that the eight-year sentence run concurrently, beginning March 23. Nwabuoku was also noted to have voluntarily refunded N220 million during the investigation, which highlighted his actions of diverting public funds for personal gain.
