Court to Rule on Ex-AG Nwabuoku's N868m Case April 2026

The Federal High Court in Abuja has set April 13, 2026, for judgment in the N868 million money laundering case against Chukwunyer Nwabuoku, the former Acting Accountant General of the Federation. Justice James Omotosho announced the date on Monday after counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ekel Iheanacho, and defense lawyer Norrison Quaker adopted their final written addresses.

Nwabuoku was arraigned on January 15, 2025, on nine counts of amended charges and was granted bail of N500 million with two sureties. The EFCC alleges that Nwabuoku, serving as Director of Finance at the Ministry of Defence from 2019 to 2021, conspired with several companies to convert funds believed to be proceeds of unlawful activities, violating the Money Laundering Prohibition Act of 2011.

Nwabuoku was appointed Acting Accountant General on May 20, 2022, by former President Muhammadu Buhari, following the suspension of Ahm Idri over allegations of N80 billion fraud. The trial has seen nine witnesses called, including officials from Zenith Bank and federal civil servants.
