Ex-APC Leader Urges US Sanctions on Tinubu's Officials

Frank, a former deputy national public secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on the United States government to impose sanctions on officials of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration. He claims these officials are engaged in actions that undermine Nigeria's democracy.

In a statement issued on Friday, Frank urged the US to enforce visa restrictions, economic sanctions, and asset freezes against top government functionaries accused of supporting anti-democratic practices. He highlighted that the current administration is weakening opposition parties ahead of future elections, warning that if no political party is strong enough to contest the presidency, Nigeria could face a crisis.

Frank criticized the US State Department for stifling opposition forces and described the current political system as resembling a monarchy. He called for global actors, including the US, to intervene before Nigeria descends into a crisis, which could trigger a large-scale refugee situation affecting its 200 million people.

His remarks come amid controversy surrounding the decision to delist the David Mark-led faction of the opposition party.
