Ex-Senator Philip Aduda Resigns from PDP Amid Crisis

Philip Aduda, the immediate past senator representing the Federal Capital Territory, officially resigned from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) citing ongoing crises within the party. His resignation took effect immediately and was communicated in a letter dated March 17, 2026, addressed to the chairman of the PDP Karu Ward in Abuja.

In the letter titled "Notice of Resignation," Aduda expressed gratitude for the opportunities the party provided during his various electoral positions but noted the persistent conflicts within the party as the reason for his departure. This resignation adds to a growing trend of defections reshaping the Senate, as three other PDP senators—Yohanna, Aminu Iyal Abba, and Ikra Aliyu Bilbi—recently joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), which now holds 84 Senate seats, reducing the PDP's representation to 14 members.

Meanwhile, five PDP senators have moved to the African Democratic Congress, which stands as the main opposition with nine members.
