Ex-Gwaram LG Chairman Zahraddeen Abubakar Resigns from APC

Zahraddeen Abubakar, the immediate past executive chairman of Gwaram Local Government Area in Jigawa State, announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a letter dated February 28, 2026. He addressed the letter to the APC ward chairman of Zandam Nagogo Ward in Gwaram Local Government Area, stating that his decision to leave the party takes immediate effect.

Abubakar explained that his political involvement began long before the formation of the APC in 2013, and he remained loyal to the party for many years. However, he expressed concern that the APC has gradually departed from its founding principles and ideals.

He emphasized that his decision was made after careful consideration of recent developments within the party. Abubakar plans to announce his next political steps at a later time.

He is recognized as a strong political ally of Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar, the former governor of Jigawa State and former Minister of Defence. Meanwhile, Badaru has denied speculation regarding a possible move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening unity within the APC in support of Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
