Usman Baba Alkali Withdraws from Yobe Guber Race

Usman Baba Alkali, the former Inspector General of Police, has officially withdrawn from the Yobe State governorship race as a candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC). His announcement was made available to journalists on Wednesday.

Alkali stated that his decision to withdraw was made after serious consultations with notable political figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, among others. He emphasized the need for unity and stability within the party, urging his supporters to remain calm and continue to support the APC.

This withdrawal reduces the number of APC governorship aspirants from six to four ahead of the 2027 general elections. Other aspirants include Ibrahim Bomai, Mustapha Maihaja, Bashir Machina, and Lawan Kolo.

Alkali, who previously held the position of the Federal Capital Territory Mandate Secretary for Agriculture and Rural Development, did not endorse any preferred candidate following his withdrawal.
