Baba Usman Alkali Withdraws from Yobe APC Gubernatorial Race

Baba Usman Alkali, a former Inspector General of Police, has officially withdrawn from the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial race in Yobe State for the upcoming 2027 general elections. This announcement was made available to journalists on Wednesday.

Alkali's decision to step back from the governorship ambition came after extensive consultations with significant political figures, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, as well as other stakeholders across the seventeen local government areas of Yobe State. He emphasized the need for unity and stability within the party and urged supporters to remain calm and continue backing the APC.

Alkali was among six APC aspirants initially vying for the governorship ticket but has now reduced the number of contenders from six to four. Despite his withdrawal, reports indicate that some aspirants have declined to endorse the party's preferred candidate, Baba Malam Wali.
