Ex-Imo Senator Athan Achonu Joins APGA for Guber Race

Athan Achonu, a former senator representing Imo East in the 8th Assembly, has officially resigned from the Labour Party and joined the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He announced his intent to contest for the Imo governorship during a speech at the State Nation on Sunday.

Achonu urged the federal government to commence a thorough investigation into the spending and distribution of subsidy funds by local government chairmen in the state. He expressed regret over the removal of fuel subsidies, which he claimed resulted in billions of naira being disbursed to local government areas without accountability.

Additionally, Achonu criticized the excessive power wielded by the leadership of the Progressives Governors Forum, claiming they exert undue influence over federal ministers. He also supported the creation of Anioma State and called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release detained leaders of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
