Abia Rep Alex Ikwechegh Joins Labour Party from APGA

Alex Ikwechegh, the representative for Aba North/Aba South in the House of Representatives, announced his defection from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to the Labour Party (LP) during a closed-door meeting with Governor Alex Otti on Tuesday. Ikwechegh explained that his decision was influenced by Otti's performance and the visible transformation in Abia State under the governor's administration.

He confirmed his resignation from APGA and dismissed rumors of joining the All Progressives Congress (APC) following a recent meeting with President Bola Tinubu, clarifying that his attendance at an iftar event was not indicative of a political shift. Ikwechegh's move is seen as a significant gain for the Labour Party, with party leaders expressing optimism about its impact on the 2027 general elections.

Ginger Onwusib, the leader of the Labour Party caucus in the National Assembly, welcomed Ikwechegh as the newest member, highlighting the importance of his contribution to the party's platform.
