Kano Ex-Governor Shekarau's Elder Brother Passes Away, Kano State Denies Emir Succession Rumors

Malam Dahiru Shekarau, the elder brother of former Kano Governor Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, has died after battling a prolonged illness in a private hospital in Kano. He was a retired Permanent Secretary in the Kano State Civil Service, having served in various capacities across ministries before his retirement in 2015.

His funeral prayers were scheduled to take place at the Giginyu Jumu Mosque in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State. Meanwhile, the Kano State government has denied rumors of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's defection to the APC and any plans to replace Emir Sanusi II on the throne, emphasizing that there are no intentions to alter the current status quo.

Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, highlighted ongoing efforts towards dialogue and reconciliation to resolve the longstanding Kano Emir crisis.
