Ahmad Lawan Demands Probe into Borno-Yobe Airstrike Tragedy

Ahmad Lawan, the former Senate President, condemned the Nigerian Armed Forces for a recent airstrike that occurred on Saturday, which reportedly killed at least 30 civilians, primarily traders, at Jilli Market along the Borno-Yobe border. The incident, which also left around 40 others injured, took place in the Gubio and Geidam local government areas.

Lawan expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Nigerian Armed Forces in the fight against insurgency. He emphasized the need for an independent investigation into the airstrike, highlighting the importance of accountability and justice for the victims.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that multiple aircraft were involved in the strike, raising concerns about the pattern of accidental strikes that have previously resulted in civilian casualties, referencing past incidents such as the Tudun Biri village bombing. Lawan extended condolences to Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni and urged the federal government to ensure medical treatment for survivors and compensation for affected families.
