Lawan Demands Probe into Deadly Yobe Airstrike Incident

Ahmad Lawan, the Senate President, has demanded an independent investigation into a military airstrike that occurred at Jilli market in the Geidam local government area of Yobe State. The airstrike, which targeted suspected Boko Haram insurgents, resulted in the deaths of no fewer than 56 people, primarily traders, and left 14 others hospitalized.

Eyewitness accounts indicate that multiple military jets participated in the operation, which struck a local market, leading to fears that the casualty count may rise. Lawan expressed deep sadness over the incident and emphasized the need for transparency and justice for the victims, who he described as largely innocent civilians.

He urged the federal government and military high command to facilitate unhindered access for investigations and ensure medical care for survivors. Additionally, he extended condolences to the families of the victims and called for a commitment to uphold the sanctity of innocent lives in the fight against terrorism.
