Executive and NASS Commit to Budget Coordination in Abuja

On Wednesday, during a two-day national policy dialogue in Abuja, the Executive and the National Assembly pledged to strengthen collaboration to bridge the gap in budget implementation and national development plans. Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu, highlighted the importance of aligning policies to achieve Nigeria's development objectives.

He commended the National Assembly for its support of ongoing economic reforms, describing them as bold and necessary despite challenges. Bagudu emphasized the need for synergy among the executive, legislative, and judicial branches.

Gboyega Isiaka, Chairman of the House Committee, reaffirmed the readiness of the 10th National Assembly to deepen cooperation beyond routine oversight functions. Musa Mustapha, Chairman of the Senate Committee, urged a shift in the perception of the budget as a mere record of expenditures to a tool for development, stressing the need for a long-term vision to build a $1 trillion economy by 2030.
