Expert Urges Rivers State to Safeguard Tax-Paying Businesses

An expert, identified as a real estate strategist, has called on the Rivers State Government to prioritize the protection of tax-paying businesses from violence and fraud. This appeal was made during a breakfast meeting jointly organized by the media and the River Intern Revenue Service (RIRS) in Port Harcourt.

The strategist emphasized the need for a voluntary tax compliance system and suggested that the government should implement measures to ensure a fraud-free and violence-free tax collection environment. Key recommendations included protecting businesses that pay taxes, providing tax incentives, and harmonizing tax payments to make the process easier.

The expert also highlighted the importance of creating a safe environment for businesses to thrive, urging the government to take action against harassment by tax collectors. Israel Egbunefu, the Executive Chairman of RIRS, was mentioned as leading efforts to improve tax collection and engage the private sector in tax education.
