FAAN Confirms No Fire at Lagos Airport Terminal 2

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued a clarification regarding an incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, stating that there was no fire as initially reported. On Sunday, activities were briefly disrupted when smoke was seen inside parts of the terminal, prompting an emergency response.

FAAN had earlier announced a fire and deployed its Aerodrome Rescue and Firefighting Service. However, in an update less than two hours later, Henry Agbebire, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, stated that preliminary findings indicated the smoke was caused by the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.

The reason for this activation is under investigation. FAAN confirmed that normal operations have resumed and expressed gratitude to passengers, airlines, and stakeholders for their understanding and cooperation, reiterating its commitment to safety and security at the airport.
