FAAN Enhances Safety and Infrastructure at MMIA

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), led by Managing Director Olubunmi Kuku, is undertaking significant improvements to airport safety and infrastructure at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos. Following the appointment of Kuku on December 13, 2024, critical rehabilitation work commenced on runway 18L/18R, which had been shut down, adversely affecting airline operations and causing delays.

Kuku's management has focused on enhancing the airport's operational capacity, particularly during night operations, by installing new airfield lighting systems and rehabilitating taxiways. These upgrades are part of a broader initiative to renew airport infrastructure, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's agenda for economic growth.

The rehabilitation of runway 18R/36L and taxiway B is expected to significantly improve operational assets and ensure uninterrupted flight operations, addressing the urgent need for modern engineering interventions as airport traffic continues to grow.
