FAAN Implements Cashless Transactions at Airports from March 1

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has declared that cash will no longer be accepted at airport gates, parking lots, and lounges beginning March 1. This decision is part of FAAN's cashless initiative, which aims to facilitate faster and safer transactions at airports.

According to a statement released by FAAN on Friday, all passengers and visitors will be required to make digital payments for services controlled by FAAN, including entry access fees, parking charges, and VIP lounge services. This initiative aligns with the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) encouragement of cashless transactions across public services.

The rollout will initially focus on high-traffic areas, with a partnership with Paystack, a digital payment company, to provide contactless payment terminals. This system will enable instant payments via NFC technology, reducing cash handling and improving passenger flow and service quality.
