FAAN Confirms No Fire at Lagos Airport Terminal Incident

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) addressed an incident that occurred early Sunday morning at Terminal Two of the Murtala Muhammad International Airport, assuring that there was no fire outbreak. Captain Abdullahi Mahmoud, FAAN's Director of Airport Operations, stated that upon receiving reports of smoke, the agency activated its emergency response protocols immediately, prioritizing the safety of passengers, staff, and airport users.

An orderly evacuation of the affected area was conducted while investigations began. Preliminary findings indicated that the incident was not due to a fire but resulted from the discharge of the FirePro fire suppression system, which is designed for critical airport infrastructure.

This system releases a compressed aerosol when activated by fire detection devices. Captain Mahmoud confirmed that there was no evidence of fire, heat, or smoke, and investigations are ongoing to determine if the discharge was due to a malfunction or a manual trigger.
