FAAN Urged to Implement Reforms for Competitiveness

During a management retreat held in Lagos from June 4 to June 7, 2026, Mr. Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi, the Director General of the Bureau of Public Service Reform (BPSR), emphasized the necessity for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to adopt sustained reforms to remain competitive in the aviation sector.

He delivered a keynote address focusing on the future of aviation in Nigeria, stressing that the sector must adapt to global trends and demands. Mr.

Arabi identified several challenges facing FAAN, including regulatory overlaps, revenue leakage, and infrastructural deficits. He proposed a comprehensive reform agenda anchored on five strategic pillars aimed at strengthening governance, modernizing airport infrastructure, enhancing financial sustainability, accelerating digital transformation, and investing in human capital development.

He also advocated for diversifying revenue sources beyond traditional aeronautical services. Mr.

Olubunmi Kuku, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of FAAN, was present, and Mr. Aliyu Umar received an award during the retreat.
