FAAN Advocates Support for Nigerian Airlines as Flag Carriers

The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Olubunmi Kuku, highlighted the necessity for support for two to three indigenous airlines to emerge as national flag carriers. This initiative is part of FAAN's broader efforts to strengthen the aviation sector and improve its global competitiveness.

During the first quarter business breakfast meeting on aviation safety, Kuku noted that this move is expected to significantly boost passenger and cargo traffic across Nigeria. She explained that developing strong local carriers capable of operating at a national level would unlock greater economic value within Nigeria's aviation ecosystem.

Additionally, Kuku mentioned ongoing projects to improve Murtala Muhammed International Airport and plans to build a modern cargo terminal with a cold chain system to support air freight growth. FAAN also plans to deploy advanced technology, including upgraded airfield lighting and enhanced safety operations, to strengthen Nigeria's aviation ecosystem and meet growing demand in the passenger and cargo segments.
