Nigerian Cargo Agents Plan Protest Against FAAN's Tariff Hike

Cargo agents in Nigeria are preparing to protest against FAAN's plan to increase cargo handling tariffs, with the new regime scheduled to start on February 2, 2026. Despite objections from stakeholders, including concerns about the impact on cargo traffic and operational costs, FAAN is moving forward with the tariff adjustments.

The proposed hike, from N7 to N25 per kilogram, has drawn criticism from industry players, including the African Association of Professional Freight Forwarders and Logistics of Nigeria. FAAN officials defend the tariff increase as part of international reforms to enhance cargo operations and revenue collection, citing improved efficiency and revenue gains in 2025.

However, industry voices warn that the tariff hike could further strain the fragile cargo market. The move to implement cashless operations at major airports is also part of FAAN's efforts to modernize airport services.
