Facebook and Instagram Face Global Outage Affecting Users

On Friday, Facebook and Instagram, both owned by Meta, suffered a widespread global outage that left millions of users unable to access their accounts. Users reported being automatically logged out and faced error messages when attempting to log back in.

The disruption affected Facebook's main website and mobile application, as well as its Messenger service. While WhatsApp appeared to remain largely operational, users reported issues accessing Instagram's website.

The outage prompted a surge of complaints across multiple countries, as tracked by the Downdetector platform, which recorded a sharp spike in reports related to Facebook's services. Despite the significant disruption, Meta had not issued an official statement regarding the cause of the outage at the time of the report, and the company's public status page did not reflect the ongoing issues, although business services were maintained.
