Factional battles, weak state structures threaten ADC’s 2027 ambition

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) faces challenges in achieving its ambition for power in 2027 due to factional battles and weak state structures. The party's crisis emerged after opposition politicians adopted a new political platform, leading to the appointment of David Mark as interim national chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary.

However, the old leadership refused to recognize the new executive, resulting in internal divisions across states like Lagos, Ogun, Kaduna, and Ekiti. Despite efforts to build the party around former APC figures, doubts remain about its ability to compete with established parties like the APC and PDP.

Factional battles are ongoing in states like Abia and Ebonyi, while leadership disputes plague Bayelsa and Edo. Observers believe that unless the ADC resolves its leadership crisis and strengthens its state structures, its 2027 ambition will remain a distant dream.
