Labour Party NEC Dissolves Nenadi Usman's Caretaker Committee

The Labour Party's National Executive Council (NEC) convened on Tuesday in Abuja and decided to dissolve the caretaker committee led by Esther Nenadi Usman. This decision was made during a virtual meeting held on March 17, 2026, where the NEC, comprised of elected state chairmen and secretaries, reviewed the activities of Usman's committee and concluded that it had caused incalculable damage to the party since its inception.

The NEC reaffirmed its confidence in the national working committee led by Julius Abur, which was elected during the national convention on March 27, 2024. The council also discussed the upcoming 2027 general elections and issued relevant notices to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) regarding the conduct of primaries.

Additionally, the NEC mandated Abur and Umar Ibrahim to pursue an appeal against a court judgment delivered by Justice Peter Lifu on January 21, 2026, which had implications for the previous notices issued concerning Usman's committee.
