Labour Party Dissolves Nenadi Usman-Led Caretaker Committee

The Labour Party has officially dissolved the caretaker committee led by Esther Nenadi Usman after an internal review of the party's affairs. This decision was reached during a virtual National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on March 17, 2026.

Members assessed the committee's activities and confirmed that its actions were detrimental to the party's operations. The resolution was signed by Abdulrahim Imam Chindo, who serves as the secretary of the NEC forum council.

The council reiterated its support for the national work committee led by the party's chairman, Abur, who had previously produced the party's national convention scheduled for March 2024. The NEC also instructed Abur to initiate the process for the party's primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections and to notify the Independent National Electoral Commission regarding official timelines.

Additionally, the NEC directed Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the party's national secretary, to continue appealing a court judgment delivered in January 2026, which affected the committee's validity.
