Fake Doctor Arrested Over Illegal Termination of Pregnancy That Led to Death in Akwa Ibom

A man posing as a medical doctor was arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly conducting an illegal abortion that resulted in the death of Blessing Sunday Etim. The suspect, identified as Sunday Okon Akpan, was apprehended on August 19, 2025, following a distress report filed by the victim's mother.

The incident took place at the Full Life Medical Centre in Ikot Obio Odongo community, Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area. Akpan attempted to dispose of the victim's body secretly, but was caught in the act and fled the scene.

Detectives observed a premature fetus exiting the victim's body upon arrival at the scene. Investigations revealed that Akpan was not a licensed doctor, nurse, or community health practitioner.

The police assured the public that the investigation is ongoing to uncover more details about the incident.
