Falana Calls for Prosecution in High-Profile Murder Cases

Femi Falana, a senior advocate in Nigeria, has demanded that security agencies and prosecutors ensure that high-profile murder cases involving political elites are not overlooked. He specifically referenced five controversial cases, urging the Nigerian Police Force and the State Attorney General to conduct diligent investigations.

Falana revisited the April 5, 2018, Offa bank robbery in Kwara State, where 33 individuals, including nine police officers, were killed. He noted that a civil suit has been filed by the bereaved families, and fresh criminal charges have reportedly been instituted by the Kwara State Government.

Falana also mentioned the abduction of activist Abubakar Idris Dadiyata in August 2019, implicating former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje in the case. Additionally, he highlighted the killing of six traders during a land dispute in Lagos State, where four policemen were accused but later freed.

Falana urged the Ministry of Justice to review the legal advice regarding these cases.
