Falana Urges Media to Reopen Unresolved Murder Cases

Femi Falana, a prominent human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), called on journalists to intensify their advocacy for the reopening of unresolved murder cases in Nigeria. This appeal was made during an interactive session at a press conference titled "The Role of Media in Promoting People's Rights and Access to Justice," organized by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in Ikeja.

Falana emphasized the media's critical role in demanding justice for victims of extrajudicial killings and abuses, noting that several high-profile cases have been abandoned without accountability. He cited specific instances, including the alleged murder of Sylvester Oromoni, a student at Dowen College in Lagos, and the 2018 Offa bank robbery in Kwara.

Falana urged the media to follow these cases until they are resolved and to uphold their watchdog function in human rights advocacy. He also warned against compromising journalistic integrity for commercial gain, stressing the importance of truth in reporting.
