Falana Declares Lagos Residents Free to Move During Sanitation

Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, has stated that residents of Lagos State are free to move during the monthly environmental sanitation exercise, which is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, from 6:30 AM to 8:30 AM. Falana criticized the Lagos State Government's insistence on restricting movement during this period, arguing that there is no law supporting such restrictions and labeling the government's actions as unconstitutional.

He emphasized that the exercise should not be compulsory and that residents should not be forced to stay home. The Lagos State Government, represented by officials including Tokunbo Wahab, has maintained that the sanitation exercise is valid and that no court has ruled against it.

Falana also highlighted that the government should not continue policies reminiscent of military rule that infringe on citizens' freedom of movement. He pointed out the need for proper waste management, as reflected in the N236 billion allocated for waste management in the 2026 budget.
