Fayemi Advocates for Tourism in Economic Development

Kayode Fayemi, the former Governor of Ekiti State, called on African leaders to incorporate tourism into their economic development strategies during his address at the International Tourism Summit held in Oyo State in 2026. Speaking at the conference at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, Fayemi stressed the importance of a long-term approach to tourism that goes beyond electoral cycles.

He described tourism as a critical yet underutilized driver of economic growth and cultural preservation across Africa. Fayemi highlighted his administration's efforts in Ekiti State, such as improving access roads to the Ikogosi Warm Spring Resort, to stimulate local economies and enhance cultural heritage.

He urged governments to create a resilient tourism ecosystem that encourages investment and community participation, ensuring that future tourism development aligns with broader economic agendas.
