Oyo State Launches 25-Year Tourism Master Plan

On May 13, 2026, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde announced the launch of a 25-year tourism master plan at the International Tourism Summit held at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan. The plan aims to develop a framework for enhancing tourism assets, including Eleyel Lake, and to attract long-term investments in the sector.

Makinde emphasized the importance of infrastructure, security, and economic reforms to support tourism growth, citing ongoing road projects to improve access to tourist sites. He also mentioned a 15-year concession agreement for the management of Bower's Tower to address investor concerns.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi praised Makinde's efforts to promote tourism and urged the establishment of a Southwest tourism circuit. The plan, designed by Kola Lawal, aims to institutionalize tourism development in Oyo State and ensure consistent growth in the sector.
