Court Halts FCCPC's Digital Lending Regulations Enforcement

On April 14, 2026, a Federal High Court in Lagos, presided over by Justice Ambrose Lewis Allagoa, granted an interim injunction that restrains the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) from enforcing specific provisions of its newly introduced digital lending regulations. The injunction was issued following an ex parte application filed by the Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria (WASPA Nigeria), which sought urgent intervention to halt the enforcement of the regulations, arguing that they negatively impact its members operating within Nigeria's digital lending ecosystem.

The court's ruling specifically restrains the FCCPC from enforcing several provisions, including paragraphs 3, 7, 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 24, 27, 29, and 32 of the regulations. The court further ordered that the FCCPC must not interfere with WASPA members' operations under the existing framework.

The case is adjourned to April 27, 2026, for further hearings.
