WASPAN Urges FCCPC to Respect Court Order on Lending Rules

The Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria (WASPAN) has called on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to respect a subsisting court order amid a dispute over lending regulations. The Federal High Court in Lagos issued an interim order on April 15, 2026, restraining the FCCPC from enforcing part of the regulations pending the determination of the suit.

Osa Umweni, the chairman of WASPAN, emphasized the importance of adhering to court directives and maintaining the rule of law. WASPAN criticized the FCCPC for issuing public statements that contradict the interim court order and highlighted the need for regulatory actions to remain within legal limits.

The association also expressed its commitment to engaging in constructive dialogue with stakeholders to protect Nigerian consumers and ensure a healthy digital ecosystem.
