FCCPC and WASPAN Settle Contempt Dispute in Court

The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria (WASPAN) resolved a contempt dispute in the Federal High Court in Lagos. The court, presided over by Justice Ambros Lewi Allagoa, struck out a contempt application initiated by WASPAN against the FCCPC.

Counsel Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, who led the plaintiff's team, formally withdrew the contempt application, allowing the court to focus on the substantive issues of the case. The suit, marked FHC/L/CS/760/2026, challenges the FCCPC's Digital Electronic Online Non-Traditional Consumer Lending Guidelines 2025, with WASPAN alleging that the FCCPC unlawfully extended its regulatory power over sectors already supervised by other agencies.

The court has adjourned the matter until July 20, 2026, for a hearing on the substantive application.
