Abuja Health Workers Strike: FCT Area Council Hospitals Shut Down

Health workers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council, Abuja, have embarked on an indefinite strike led by the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC). The strike, declared due to the FCT Administration's breach of trust and unresolved grievances, has led to the closure of primary health centers and general hospitals, leaving residents stranded without access to essential healthcare services.

Despite a court order to resume work, the strike continues, with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) supporting the workers' action. The FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken legal action against JUAC leaders, while human rights lawyer Femi Falana and NLC President Joe Ajaero have intervened in the matter.

The strike's impact is severe, with patients facing long waits and having to seek expensive treatment in private hospitals.
