ADC Condemns Wike's 'War' Comments Ahead of Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for his remarks suggesting a 'war' against opposition candidates to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the upcoming elections scheduled for February 21, 2026. In a statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC described Wike's comments as reckless and inflammatory, warning that such rhetoric could heighten the already fragile political climate in Nigeria, which is grappling with economic hardship and insecurity.

The ADC emphasized that the outcome of the elections should be determined solely by the Nigerian populace, not by any individual or minister, and criticized Wike's comments as an irresponsible danger to the nation's democratic stability. The party accused Wike and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to intimidate voters, reflecting their fear of declining public support.

The ADC vowed to resist any attempts to undermine the democratic process and urged political actors to respect the will of the Nigerian people.
