FCT Police Enforce Movement Ban for February 21 Elections

The FCT Police Command announced a 12-hour restriction on movement across Abuja from 6 AM to 6 PM on February 21, 2023, in preparation for the area council elections. This measure, communicated by the command's public relations officer, Josephine Adeh, is designed to facilitate a smooth electoral process.

The restriction applies to residents, with exceptions for essential services and individuals involved in the electoral process. Adeh noted that extensive security deployments would be made across the territory to maintain order and ensure free polling operations.

This effort involves a joint operation of multiple security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, Department of State Services (DSS), and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). Miller Dantaway, the FCT Commissioner of Police, directed officers to conduct their duties professionally while respecting citizens' rights.

He urged the public to cooperate with security personnel and report any suspicious activities using designated emergency lines.
