FCT Police Enforce 12-Hour Movement Restriction on Elections

The FCT Police Command has declared a 12-hour restriction on movement across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 21, 2026, coinciding with the scheduled area council elections. The movement restriction will be enforced from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with exemptions granted for essential services provided by accredited election officials.

This measure is part of a comprehensive security arrangement aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly electoral process. The police will deploy a large number of security personnel throughout the FCT, collaborating with other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Nigerian Navy, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.

Residents are urged to cooperate fully with security personnel and adhere strictly to the guidelines issued during the electoral period. Miller Dantaway, the police command's director, emphasized the need for vigilance and professionalism among officers to guarantee a free and fair electoral process.
