FCT-IRS Extends Individual Tax Filing Deadline

The Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS), led by Executive Chairman Michael Ango, has announced an extension of the deadline for individual tax filing. This extension is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the territory's digital tax administration, making the filing process simpler and more secure for residents.

Mustapha Samaila, the head of corporate communications at FCT-IRS, stated that the extension aims to improve compliance among taxpayers and ensure they submit accurate returns. He urged Abuja's growing population to embrace voluntary compliance as a civic duty contributing to national development.

Under the Nigerian Tax Act 2025, every Nigerian earning income is mandated to file an annual tax return that includes earnings from the previous year. Many major Nigerian taxpayers remain unaware of the process involved in filing personal income tax returns under the new tax law.
