LIRS Extends Individual Tax Filing Deadline to April 14

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced an extension of the deadline for individual annual tax returns filing from April 1 to April 14, 2026. This decision, communicated by Monsurat Amasa Oyelud, the head of corporate communications at LIRS, aims to give individuals additional time to complete and submit accurate tax returns.

Dr. Ayodele Subair, the executive chairman of LIRS, emphasized the importance of timely filing and compliance as a routine practice for taxpayers.

The LIRS has highlighted that electronic filing via the LIRS eTax platform remains the approved method, while manual filing is being phased out. Earlier in February, LIRS had reminded individuals that the deadline for filing the 2026 annual tax return was March 31.

The extension reflects ongoing efforts to modernize Nigeria's tax framework and strengthen compliance at both state and federal levels, aiming to prevent last-minute rushes that often lead to errors.
