FCT NUJ and NDPC Partner for Journalist Data Protection

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to safeguard journalists from increasing digital threats. The agreement was formalized on Wednesday during a high-level courtesy visit led by Comrade Grace Ik, the chairman of the FCT NUJ.

The partnership seeks the NDPC's support in training journalists on data protection and enhancing ethical reporting to maintain public trust. Dr.

Vincent Olatunji, the CEO of NDPC, praised the initiative and emphasized the commission's mandate to promote awareness and create a robust data protection framework. As part of this collaboration, the NDPC will provide free virtual privacy academy vouchers and certification programs.

This partnership aligns with ongoing legislative efforts to strengthen Nigeria's data protection framework, which generated revenues of 16.2 billion naira in 2022, up from 7.2 billion naira in 2019.
