NUJ and NDPC Partner to Enhance Journalists' Cybersecurity

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has entered into a strategic partnership with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) to bolster journalists' defenses against cyber threats. This pact was formalized during a high-level courtesy visit on Wednesday, led by NUJ Chairman Comrade Grace Ik.

The NDPC, represented by Dr. Vincent Olatunji, aims to support training initiatives for journalists in data protection, emphasizing the importance of ethical reporting and safeguarding public trust.

Comrade Ik highlighted the rapid evolution of the digital ecosystem and the sophistication of cyber threats, stressing the need for journalists to understand data protection laws to prevent breaches and enhance their resilience against digital attacks. The NDPC's commitment includes offering free virtual privacy academy vouchers and certification programs as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Nigeria's data protection framework.

This collaboration is particularly timely, coinciding with National Privacy Week, which aims to promote compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
