NSCDC Officer Arrested for Shooting at Kubwa Market

On October 25, 2026, at approximately 1:50 p.m., the FCT Police received a distress call about a man shooting sporadically into the air at a market in Kubwa, Abuja. Police operatives from the Kubwa Division were dispatched to the scene, where they successfully disarmed and arrested the suspect, identified as Onoja Samuel, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Investigations revealed that Samuel had gone to the market armed with a pistol due to reports that some traders had assaulted his wife. During an argument with the traders, he fired several shots into the air.
The police recovered a CZ pistol and seventeen rounds of live 9mm ammunition from him. Samuel is currently in police custody and will face charges upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, urged security agencies to coordinate with police divisions to prevent clashes during operations.
