INEC Refutes Election Result Manipulation Claims

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) issued a statement on Tuesday addressing allegations of result manipulation in the recent elections held in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The claims arose from a viral figure suggesting that a political party received 1,219 votes, which INEC clarified was incorrect.

According to INEC, the actual score was 121 votes, and the discrepancy was attributed to a human error during the data entry process. The commission noted that the polling unit in question had 345 registered voters, with only 213 accredited voters, making the initial figure mathematically impossible.

INEC emphasized that its technology safeguards, including the Bi-modal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), prevent manipulation of results. The commission reassured the public that the results were collated in compliance with the Electoral Act and INEC guidelines, urging the media and public to verify information against official records.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability in the electoral process.
