INEC Addresses Voter Relocation Claims for FCT Elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has addressed concerns regarding the relocation of voters to unknown polling units for the upcoming Area Council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026, in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). INEC's Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Wilfr Ifogah, clarified that there would be no migration of voters from their original polling units.

The commission explained that split polling units were created to alleviate overcrowding, with additional units located just a few meters from the original polling points. Despite improvements in voter turnout compared to previous elections, INEC noted a significant level of voter apathy.

The commission reported that 239,210 voters represented a 15% participation rate from the 1,680,315 registered voters in the FCT for the 2026 elections. INEC successfully conducted elections for chairmanship positions across six area councils, with results announced late Saturday, except for Kuje due to delays in result collation attributed to difficult terrain.
