INEC Confirms No Voter Migration in FCT Polling Split

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has countered claims from opposition parties regarding voter migration linked to the split of polling units in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in February 2022. INEC's Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Wilfr Ifogah, stated that the split was intended to alleviate overcrowding, with 1,250 registered voters per unit being reduced to approximately 411 polling units, redistributing 580,000 voters.

INEC's Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, noted that the total number of polling units nationwide increased to 176,000, with no new voter migration occurring in 2026. The commission reassured voters that the administrative adjustments would not affect their registration status.

INEC also encouraged voters to verify their polling details through text messages and emails sent between February 18 and 21, 2026, ahead of the elections, reaffirming its commitment to improving the electoral process.
