PDP's Julius Adamu Withdraws for APC's Joshua Ishaku

Julius Adamu, the candidate from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for the chairmanship of the Bwari Area Council, has formally withdrawn from the electoral race, thereby clearing a path for his opponent, Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This decision comes in light of a recent Supreme Court ruling that confirmed Ishaku's status as the valid APC candidate following a legal dispute regarding party primaries.

The elections for the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) are scheduled for February 21, 2026. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has also announced a strict crackdown on vote-buying ahead of these elections, with measures in place to catch offenders at polling units.

INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan has instructed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to take action against anyone involved in vote trading, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the credibility of the electoral process.
